Hellooo Laneway! The 3rd installment of the annual music festival had made its way to Singapore, setting its stage at Gardens by the Bay. It was a HOT day, sweat was seriously dripping from my face AND being exchanged what with everyone bumping and grinding. Certainly wasn’t pretty! But that’s all for the love of music, and lovers of music they came in hundreds as this year brought an even bigger crowd. What that translated to? Well longer queues for one at the food & beverage stations. There was even a time when water ran out so the organizers allowed drinks bought from outside. But dehydration aside, it also meant an even bigger fashion feast for me. I get giddy seeing people put together an outfit that just works. Although it was generally casual and predictable for some, there were still a lot that caught my eye. I did a few rounds and was able to spot outfits from festival chic to statement makers. Yes, the Laneway runway was packed.

But of course there was the music. But to be honest, I still preferred the lineup from last year. And though a couple of my friends were suggesting to go for the Big Night Out instead which was going to feature Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (YEAH I missed Yeah Yeah Yeahs), I still chose Laneway. I think I was still on a high from last year.

I missed Kings of Convenience but made it just in time when Of Monsters & Men were on. Enjoyed their set, but I can’t say the same for Real Estate. OMG! I was ready to fall asleep. And I wasn’t alone in this! A group behind me made it pretty clear with constant yelling of ‘You s**k!’ Now I wouldn’t go that far, I guess it was just ‘too chill’ for my taste. And they were on until 7pm, and at that time I was just yearning for something a little more upbeat. They could perhaps have been placed on an earlier slot. Others I liked were Yeasayer, and of course, Gotye and Kimbra! Kimbra reminded me of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse all rolled into one – such a performer! And her outfits too!

So will I be in Laneway 2014? Hmmm… I’ll have to get back to you on that. 🙂

Jakeena!
